Troubleshooting Sticking Keys
Look for a foreign object first. Coins, pencils and small toys account for a surprising share of stuck-key calls.
Press the neighboring keys. If several adjacent notes are sluggish, humidity has likely swollen the key bushings.
Note whether the key sticks down or returns slowly; the first suggests binding, the second suggests a weak spring or a verdigris-affected center pin.
Do not force or lubricate anything. Household oils migrate into felt and turn a fifteen-minute repair into an action rebuild.
